Max Schulman's "Love Is a Fallacy"

Read Max Schulman's "Love Is a Fallacy." This should bring back—a bit, I hope—some rationality into our hyped celebration of Valentines Day.

Sir, I have read that story written by Max Schulman in my sister's English book. It is an interesting story about a law student who wished and tried his very best to transform his dream wife, who is not so intelligent at all, to be perfect for him.

Yes, Jessa. You are right. It is a very interesting and humorous story. I'm glad you still remember that story. I first read that story when I was in first year high school and I could never forget that story because it was my first encounter with the informal fallacies. Then, when I went on to college and studied logic, I encountered the so-called formal fallacies.

What do you think: is love a fallacy?

In that story I learned about Hasty generalization, poisoning the well, and so on. Those kind of reasoning were like those when you study law. I didn't know that those unfamiliar terms to me existed until I have read the story. So, I thank the story for teaching me all those stuffs I haven’t heard in my life.

The informal fallacies aren't really just for law students. They have practical applications for ordinary people like us, too.
